This is not an exhaustive list, but I’ve been traveling for the last 10-years, and I’ve learned a lot about staying safe, and it all begins right here. Reviewing them before each scheduled trip can help make the difference between a safe and fun-filled trip and one filled with issues.
Check your destination’s local news.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.) provides information and health recommendations for U.S. residents traveling internationally.
World Health Organization gives the latest country-specific travel notices. Some countries will have special requirements or warnings that may have changed since you last visited.
Register with your embassy through S.T.E.P. (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program). It is designed to make a destination’s local embassy aware of your arrival and keep you frequently updated with the latest safety information.
The U.S. Department of State has a travel advisory page for every country in the world that lists all known difficulties and current threats to the safety of visitors.
